Quality At-Bats (QAB)

Players and coaches should alter their mindset away from getting hits (which is out of their control) to hitting the ball hard or doing something productive for the team (things they can control). In the QAB System, players approach hitting with new goals to achieve.
In the QAB System players always have a higher QAB average than their regular average and on-base percentage. Typically, a player’s QAB average is twice as high as his regular average. We want to give our players a meaningful way to evaluate their performances, and also to help us make decisions as a coaching staff as to who is really doing the most for our team, throughout the season. The thing that we take into consideration, that no one else does, is productive outs that players make.
There are nine things that a player can do to get credit for QAB:
1) Hard Hit Ball
2) Walk
3) Hit By Pitch
4) Move Runner(s) with No Outs
5) Score Runner From 3rd with Fewer Than Two Outs
6) Base Hit
7) Six Pitch At-Bat Not Ending in a Strikeout
8) Nine Pitch At-Bat Even Ending in a Strikeout
9) Catcher’s Interference

Kid With Plays Varsity Baseball With 1 Arm

Zeke Dees lost the ability to use his left arm after crashing his quad into a tree. But, that didn't stop him from playing varsity high school baseball. In fact he is an active outfielder for the top-seeded Tri-County North team, the Lions. This little go-getter has figured out how to swing the bat, catch, and throw with only one arm. Posting a .147 with 4 RBI's, made the final out for the win against Catholic Central with a running catch from left-center.

He catches the ball with a left-handed glove flips the ball, drops the glove, and makes the throw. Fellow teammate Dylan Herring said, "He's worked really hard to get good at what he's doing. We tried the thing where you catch it, flip the glove up, just to see what it's like, and it's crazy hard."

Steve Behr has replaced his father as head coach of the baseball program at Chase Collegiate. The Highlanders' coach Ray Behr had stepped down after realizing that he would not be able to give the program the attention it deserves.

Coach Steve Behr is no stranger to the Highlanders' baseball team as he has assisted his father and coached three games last season. Former coach Ray Behr had no issues with the school in transitioning to his son. He was quoted as saying " I told the school and that was that." Steve Behr is uncertain of his lock as head coach, but says "I love being at Chase and would welcome any opportunity to allow me to do that."

Girls Joins Boys High School Baseball Team

Munroe High School in Quincy, Florida has a female addition to their baseball team. Mary Pat Thomas has joined the team because the softball program was unable to field enough players.

According to coach Jeremy Barlow, she is just one of the guys and it's really not that different having her there. Mary is playing 3rd, 2nd, and pitcher.

Mary said that the biggest adjustment is in the batters box. Seeing the ball coming down instead of up has forced her to adjust her swing. But, she says to any girls considering trying out for baseball, "Don't be scared, have fun, and just try out.
